The
Golden Agers
The Golden Agers was founded about eight years ago as a nonprofit organization to help bring senior citizens together and to keep them active. During this past calendar year of 2006, the group increased its activity. Evelyn Tolbert and Mary McGill served as Activity Chairpersons for the 2006 year and presented the senior citizens with a broad cross-section of trips and excursions.
The Activity Schedule for the Golden Agers shows they are experiencing another very active year. They conducted a very successful health seminar in partnership with Kaiser Foundation on February 13, 2007. More than 120 senior citizens came out to obtain information on Hypertension and High Blood Pressure. Kaiser Foundation provided the services of Dr. Nguyen and other medical professionals who conducted a number of health examinations, free of charge, for attendees.
A number of attractive trips and events are planned for 2007 and another health seminar will be conducted in August with the Golden Agers partnering with Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.
Throughout 2006, the Golden Agers enrolled new and enthusiastic members that will help sustain the energy of the group into the future. The Golden Agers are not satisfied. They want other Older Americans to join them. "An active senior is a healthy senior" and "Seniors On The Go" are the mottos of the Golden Agers. The Golden Agers will will continue its membership drive until the middle of 2007. The age span of eligibility to membership has been expanded so that those who are in their forty's (40's) can accompany their parents as members.
To join the Golden Agers in their upcoming recreational activities, or to join the Golden Agers as a member in support of their senior services programs, contact Mary McGill at (209) 839-0754. The Golden Agers meetings are held at the Lolly Hanson Senior Center on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Come out. Bring your friends, bring your parents. Help the Golden Agers bring more senior citizens programming to Tracy.
