Tracy Area Genealogical Society

The Tracy Area Genealogical Society (TAGS) began on November 5, 1998. The objectives of this organization are: to assist members in searching for their ancestors and family history; to provide information on sources of genealogical data; to provide educational workshops to train in techniques of genealogy; and to provide opportunities for exchange of information for all levels of researchers.

Society meetings are held on from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. Annual membership dues are $18 for individuals and $25 for two party families, and $7.00 for extra members included in Family Memberships. There are all levels of expertise among the members of the group and all members are very willing to share their knowledge.

The Tracy Area Genealogical Society maintains a genealogical library on the second floor of the Tracy Historical Museum at 1141 Adam Street. The Tracy Area Genealogical Society library contains a variety of research materials, books of family histories, Tracy genealogical information, and a number of computers that are connected to various on-line research and information depositories. Staff members are available to assist you in your family history searches. The library is open to the public on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; on the second Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Trips to sites where genealogical records can be readily obtained such as the Oakland Family History Center, UC Berkeley Doe Library, San Bruno National Archives, and the California State Library in Sacramento are planned throughout the year. If you are interested in learning more about your family and wish to benefit from networking with people who can help you in your research, consider joining the Tracy Area Genealogical Society!
