Tracy Youth Advisory Commission

Having a committee, or some sort of group composed of young people to interact with city government in providing a conduit for input directly from youth was talked about for quite some time before it became a reality. Evelyn Tolbert had worked with a Youth Advisory Commission in a city in which she previously lived and knew what a key role such an entity could play in both the provision of vital services to youth and ensuring that city officials remained aware of the concerns of young people.

Evelyn committed to having such a forum created for Tracy's young people. Through her perseverance her goal was achieved. On June 16, 1998, the Tracy Youth Advisory Commission was established by the Tracy City Council. The Tracy Youth Advisory Commission conducts an assortment of events for young people throughout each year. The Commission organizes ski trips, dance, swim parties, holds tutoring sessions, and produces a "Battle of the Bands' each year. The Commission members participate in programs with senior citizens and maintain a regular schedule of activities at "The Mix", the youth center which is located at 2302 Bessie Avenue.

Since its creation, the Tracy Youth Advisory Commission has continuously proven its value through the provision of valuable services throughout the community, and specifically to our youth. Evelyn Tolbert remains committed to our young people and continuously proposes and strongly supports youth programming.
