Tracy Area Genealogical Society
The Tracy Area Genealogical Society (TAGS) ) began on November 5, 1998. The objectives of this organization are: to assist members in searching for their ancestors and family history; to provide information on sources of genealogical data; to provide educational workshops to train in techniques of genealogy; and to provide opportunities for exchange of information for all levels of researchers.
Evelyn Tolbert has been a member of the Tracy Area Genealogical Society since early in its inception. There are all levels of expertise among the members of the group and all members are very willing to share their knowledge. With the assistance of her co-members and development of her own research skills, Evelyn has been successful in tracing her family back to the 19th century and was successful in having her father, an Army enlistee, wounded in World War I combat, awarded a belated Purple Heart.
The Tracy Area Genealogical Society maintains a genealogical library on the second floor of the Tracy Historical Museum at 1141 Adam Street. The Tracy Area Genealogical Society library contains a variety of research materials, books of family histories, Tracy genealogical information, and a number of computers that are connected to various on-line research and information depositories. Staff members are available to assist you in your family history searches. The library is open to the public on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or by special appointment.
