The Golden Agers
The Golden Agers was founded in1996 as a nonprofit organization to help bring senior citizens together and to keep them active. The Golden Agers believe that "An Active Senior is a Healthy Senior". During this past three years, the Golden Agers have grown in number and increased in activity. The 2008 Board of Directors are: President Mary McGill; Vice President Rose Miller; Recording Secretary Annette Reddick, Correspondence Secretary Mercedes Patrick, Treasurer Beatrice Macon, Membership Chairperson Bobbie McLaughlin, Events Coordinator Phyllis Kiester, Scholarship Chairperson Delores Carter; Historian Margie Thieme, Fundraising Chairperson Mildred Helm; Sunshine Chairperson Shirley Clark, Chaplains Syble Cole and Ellen Cochran, Board Director Jeff Davis and Board Director Arnold Barton.
Evelyn Tolbert, one of the Founding Members, continues to serve as an Activity Chairperson. The Activity schedule presents senior citizens throughout Tracy with a broad cross-section of trips and excursions. Activity Schedule events in the near future include trips, special presentations, and special events.
The Golden Agers continuously seek new members. The age span of eligibility to membership has been expanded so that those who are in their forty's (40's) can accompany their parents as members.
To join the Golden Agers in their upcoming recreational activities, or to join the Golden Agers as a member in support of their senior services programs, contact Mary McGill at (209) 839-0754. The Golden Agers meetings are held at the Lolly Hanson Senior Center on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Come out. Bring your friends, bring your parents. Help the Golden Agers bring more senior citizens programming to Tracy.
Golden Agers Visit Roaring Camp Railroads
As one of their recreational activities, the Golden Agers took a trip to Roaring Camp Railroads located in Felton, California. The camp sits among the towering redwoods and is like a journey back to another time. Approximately forty to forty five seniors took the trip confirming their motto that "An Active Senior is a Healthy Senior"!
