2007 Will Be a Year of Action!
Upon my re-election on November 7, 2006, I determined that 2007 would be a year of action for me, for the City Council, and for our community as a whole. We have all be discussing a number of vital issues for the past few years. I believe we have reached strong consensus on a number of things that are critical to our community and now is time to implement some solutions.
I proposed and submitted to the Tracy City Council a “Mayor’s Community Youth Support Network.” This program received the resounding approval of the City Council and City Staff. In January, you, the community packed the Tracy Community Center and gave this proposal your enthusiastic support. Now we have a group of citizens, parents, professionals, and Youth Service Providers working on the necessary structure to implement this Network for the support of our young people. Thank You.
I proposed and submitted to the Tracy City Council the basic umbrella structure of an “Equitable Affordable and Work Force Housing Program.” The City Council approved this umbrella structure. Implementation will begin shortly upon the hiring of a Consultant which was also approved by the City Council. This program will consist of various elements designed to implement programs making our community one in which families at all economic levels can be accorded access to housing in their particular price range. We have long talked about “affordable housing” as the politically correct thing to do. Now we are actually going to work together to see what affordable housing will be as specifically designed for our community of Tracy.
The Golden Agers senior citizen organization, in which I am actively involved, has invited every elected official who has Tracy in their jurisdiction to attend an “Enhanced Access for Older Americans Forum” during National Older Americans Month on Sunday, May 20, 2007. The officials invited are: Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Jerry McNerney, Dennis Cardoza, Greg Aghazarian, Mike Machado, Cathleen Galgiani, Leroy Ornellas, and our own Mayor, Brent Ives. I feel that this increasingly numerous portion of our community, our senior citizens, deserve and should be accorded the respect of having their elected officials meet with them directly to discuss how the challenges they face can be addressed.
