West Side Pioneer Association
One of the best things I did when I got to Tracy was to join the West Side Pioneers. This is a group of people who have loved Tracy and lived in Tracy for
decades and generations. In fact, until about five years before I moved here, residing in Tracy for 30 years was a requirement for membership. The West Side Pioneer Association was the first organization I joined as a new Tracy resident.
I have come to know the members of the West Side Pioneers to be warm, friendly, and progressive and far-sighted as concerned Tracy residents. Most of them are
saddened about many of the changes in Tracy, and, individually and as a group, they expend much effort in preserving the history of our City. But as many of them were directly involved in the process of developing the Urban Management Plan, they are not anti-growth, but are in favor of careful growth management.
The earlier residents of Tracy came to the consensus that growth was not to be rejected, but rather to be managed and controlled. They are not shy about expressing their opinions to City Council members during Council sessions, in restaurants, and in neighborhood stores. I personally have entertained a number of
them in my home and believe me; they are not hesitant in any situation about giving me a piece of their minds when they think the Council is in danger of doing something wrong. I always appreciate their thoughtful, caring input.
The West Side Pioneer Association operates the Tracy Historical Museum located at 1141 Adams Street on a volunteer basis. The Museum is open on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. (except for the second Wednesday of the month when it is open in the evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.). The Museum is also open on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, call the Museum @ (209) 832-7278
Lammersville School House
I am very proud of the Lammersville School House and see it as strong visual evidence to everyone of how much value the West Side Pioneers continue to have to our community. The preservation of the old one-room Lammersville schoolhouse located in Clyde Bland Park is an accomplishment the whole city can be proud of.
