Mayor's Community Youth Support Network

On Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., March 21, 2008 the "Mayor's Community Youth Support Network" was formally presented to the community at the Tracy Community Center.

The "Mayor's Community Youth Support Network" is a commitment made by the Tracy City Council to a vision presented by Evelyn Tolbert. The vision has become a reality. The Mayor's Community Youth Support Network was formed by the City of Tracy, in conjunction with the County of San Joaquin, the Tracy Unified School District, church leaders, non-profits organizations, caring individuals, and parents. The programs, activities, and entities that work directly with youth are denoted as "Service Providers". The officials who provide the leadership and government coordination are the "Policy Team".

The Mayor's Community Youth Support Network is not an "anti-gang" program, nor is it an "anti-drug" program. It does, however, deal with both of these issues when needed. But it is much more. The Mayor's Community Youth Support Network is a comprehensive network of public and private services which have been brought together to work in a complementary manner to provide whatever support an individual young person needs. The needs may run the gamut from tutoring, job referrals, counseling, recreational activities, job training, and various other types of assistance.

The commitment to this effort runs deep. Virtually every strong service provider in Tracy is a member of this "Network" and they are dedicated to the full implementation of the strategic plan that they work together to create. The Tracy City Council allocated One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) for the Mayor's Community Youth Support Network. There is a full time Director. San Joaquin County has allocated funds and staff time for an employment element that will be securing employment for young people during the summer of 2008.

The Mayor's Community Youth Support Network was presented by Evelyn Tolbert because of her deep care and concern about Tracy's youth. Her commitment to our young people continues to be one of the basic motivations for her high level of community service.
